Over
I can't believe how quickly this class seemed to go.. I really enjoyed everyone's presentation last night. We are all very dedicated teachers. Great working with all of you.
Last Class
I feel that I learned a lot from this class and think it helped to be able to work on and create projects that were hands-on. I am excited to use my PowerPoint presentation with my class and got a lot of good ideas from viewing everyone else's presentations last night. Thanks for a great course!
The Next Day
I am not sure if I posted after each class, so to make sure, I want to say again how thankful I am to have so many new powerpoint skills. I hope to refine my skills and hopefully be able to include powerpoint into my classroom more. I know that being able to embed video and sound will help greatly. Thanks again.
The End of Class
I would just like to say thank you to both instructors for a very informative and exciting experience. I came into the class having little knowledge of how to create a PowerPoint and feel that I left with the confidence to create a "presentable" PowerPoint. I was really impressed with the PowerPoint presentations we viewed last evening.

Tonight's Post
I'm so glad to have been able to find new ways to improve my powerpoint skills and take my past presentations to the next level. It is great to see all of the great work going on.
Thanks to All!
I feel I have learned so much in this class! Thanks to Chris and Deb for all their knowledge and understanding and to all for sharing their ideas! Hope to see you all in another class!
My first powerpoint
I finally did it, from start to finish my PowerPoint took about 8 hours. I think the reason it took so long is of all the experimenting with all the fun animations. Also finding all the right pictures took a long time. I did have a good time working on my powerpoint.
Burning PowerPoint to a CD
I was very happy to learn how to add all the necessary files to save my PowerPoint to a CD! I feel like I am starting to get a little tech -savy going on!
WoooHoooo!
The powerpoint is done, and I couldn't be happier with it!! (Well, ok, maybe I could be, but it's an expression, get it?) I really feel that I have gained a lot of useful information in this class. This is one of those rare times where you take a class, and you can see yourself using everything that you learned on a regular basis. The only remaining challenge is to make sure that I don't nauseate my students with Powerpoints.
Good Information
Thank you to whoever put the information in the blog for putting youtube in powerpoint, I have been wondering how to do that! On to Web 2.0 Tools 2! Great class, thanks again!

Thanks!!!
I am glad I took this class because I can actually use what I learned right away. My third grade class will benefit from my new found knowledge! :)
Embedding Video
I had a very interesting time creating my PowerPoint presentation. The most challenging part was to try to embed video into my PowerPoint presentation.
Adding Videos
It was a struggle to add a video to my PowerPoint, but I like how it all turned out in the end. I look forward to presenting my PowerPoint this evening and am also excited to see everyone else's presentations too! :-)
Music in your power point
If you are having trouble with your music not starting with your first slide. When working in custom animation, make sure that the music is the first box (effect).
I Liked This
I came in having done quite a bit with powerpoint. I have learned a few tricks that I didn't know before and have become much faster at creating presentations. Very beneficial class!
Thank you!
Thank you!
I CREATED A POWERPOINT!!!!!
I did it! It was very streesful for me and I hope I met all the criteria. I am planning on using this PP with my students next year in preparation for contest.
Putting a YouTube video into powerpoint
If you ever want to include a YouTube video in your powerpoint, directions for achieving this are at

Videos in power point
I have video I would like to incorporate into my power point, but it has commercial at the beginning of it. "How Stuff Works" often has commercials in the beginning (they are good videos, but oftentimes have harmless commercials at the beginning). Is there any way to put only portions of videos into the power point?

Downloading Video
I downloaded a video from teacher tube, which went to realplayer. How do I take the video from realplayer and put it into my power point.

Citations
Where to put the citations:
These are various responses from librarians on LM-Net about how they cite sources on powerpoint:
"Usually, they have a works cited slide and "in text" citations on
the individual sides."
"We usually have works cited on slides at the end."
"I always have the students put the URL alongside the image, much
like how images in magazines or newspapers are attributed."
"Provide a caption citation for all direct quotations and /or images on your PowerPoint slides."
So there seems no standard method as long as the source is cited!
How to format the citations:

K-12, College, & University: Just plug in the citation information and this website will put it in the proper form. Then all you need to do is copy and paste onto your slide.

Powerpoint
I, too, was excited about the ability to use Inspiration and Powerpoint together. This is a time comsuming task and yet I understand how we need to be aware of our audience and our purpose as we create these Powerpoint presentations.
PowerPoint
I am stressed out trying to make an ok PowerPoint. I have already put in over four hours and have much more to go. There is so much to know to make a great PowerPoint. How do you download a video onto a slide?
Feeling A Little Overwhelmed!!
I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. I knew I shouldn't be taking a class during music contest month. I'm here at school from 7 a.m. until 4 or 5 p.m. nightly working with my kids on their contest stuff. With an overload and only one prep and only dial-up at home, it's hard to fnid time to get things done. So I will try to keep plugging away!

Final presentation
Well, it's happened again, it looks like I may have bitten off more than I can chew. Once I saw my Inspiration outline I knew I had gotten carried away, and while I have a daunting task in front of me, I intend to plow into it wholeheartedly. My only worry is that I'm going to get a lot done, and then need to make major chnges.

Inspiration
Wow! I did not know that you could export from Inspiration AT ALL! Pretty cool. It really does make me outline first instead of just jumping in...exactly what I tell students to do but skip myself. It would be a great tool to use when the students do presentations (make a sloppy copy first/outline).
Scanning
Thanks so much! I have now learned to scan in documents....I never knew how to do that! Will the documents usually work if you just scan using the machines or do you always need to open up a program first?

Fibonacci Lesson
First of all, the rest of my group needs to know how to spell Fibonacci. I tried to tell them, but just as in my personal life, no one listens! I want to learn more about music and image copyright laws and how to properly give credit to the creators within a PowerPoint presentation.
March 10, 2009
I found last week to be very interesting and would like to find out more information about music copyrighting and transitioning photos into each slide.
Fibonacci
It's was very difficult to work on this project by myself. Hey, I struggled; but, I got it finished. I really enjoyed putting the music and video into the project.

Fibo's presentations
I love working in groups to create these. It's easier to figure out the steps as a group. If one person doesn't remember how to do something, usually another person does.
Do we need to bring in anything for our next class - camera, etc??

We Did It!
Our group worked well together and I think our presentation was OK. I couldn't believe how fast the time flew while creating our PP. Hopefully, we will have more time to explore this next week so we can get any questions answered in class before our final week. Will those that were at conferences be creating the Fibonacci powerpoint and presenting them to us this week?

Powerpoint # 2
Working in a group was great making our PowerPoint last night. I am learning so much but it is starting to get a little stressful trying to keep track of all the steps in making a creative PowerPoint. Looking at all the transitions, I can't believe there are so many and trying to figure out which ones to use is tough. I hope I am able to do my finale PowerPoint project with some creativity. How many slides should our last project have?
QUESTION
I went into Word and was looking for a template on-line. Once I found the template I wanted it was a PowerPoint. Can you do a mail-merge in a presentation, this was a certificate? Can I attach it to Word and do it from there. I know this is confusing. I guess if I were to do a hundred certificates maybe a PowerPoint certificate may not be the best choice based on this. Let me know what you think. Thanks-Margaret
Last night's class was fun. I had a great time working with my group on the Fibonacci power point. I learned how to add music and how to add pictures from the internet. I realized that I need to practice more during the week so I don't forget the new skills I've learned! We didn't have time to cite our sources, so that's something I'll make sure to save time for in the next class! The one thing I am wondering is how detailed 'citing' needs to be?

Fibonacci, Da Man!
Well, tonight's class certainly was informative, and again posed a nice chance to flex the creative muscles in the brain (yes, I know there aren't muscles in the brain). My biggest problem at this pont is trying not to do EVERYTHING. Naturally I want to try all of the new tricks and techniques that we have seen, but I have to reign it in or I will continue to have nights where I (or my group) finish what I am (we are) working on with only seconds to go. Powerpoint is definately a great tool. I just need to remember that I don't have to do it all at once or inone presentation.
Fibonocci?
It is definitely a theory. It does not always hold true.
So far, I don't have too many questions. This class has given me an opportunity to explore a few things I haven't had time to explore. I am still wondering about how to import a picture that isn't so HUGE!

Who has an lcd projector or a smartboard or a mimio available for showing powerpoints to their students?

Animation
I was very happy to learn the beginnings of PowerPoint. I would really like to spend more time and do a better job on the animations. I am also curious about how to scan pictures, tables and charts into the Powerpoint.
Power point
I really enjoyed seeing everyone's powerpoint presentation. What a great way to start a class and get to know everyone. I'm just wondering if the other high school teachers were able to get out of their conferences next week? My principal is making me make up 3 and 1/2 hours of parent contact time.
My First Powerpoint
I can't believe I was able to make my first powerpoint in class yesterday, but I have a long way to go. How do you make the text and pictures come out of nowhere onto the page? That would be awesome to learn. Also I saw a powerpoint presentation at school today and it had many cartoon pictures on it from the Dr.Suess books. How did they get those pictures on the slides.
Video Insertion
I would like to learn if it is possible to incorporate video segments from You Tube into my PowerPoint presentation. Specifically, short segments of a video clip as opposed to the entire clip.
March 3rd Class
I would like to know more about how to add music to create a slideshow. I understand how to do the transitions and animations, but now I want to know how to go about adding music through certain websites and also from my itunes library.

First Night Thoughts
I really had a great time trying out the different features of Powerpoint. Just having a chance to "play" with the program really gave a boost to my confidence and my creative vibe. I hope that as time goes on with the class I will learn various ways to fine tune and streamline my presentations. While I was happy with my finished product tonight, seeing what many other people were able to accomplish makes me realize that I could do much better than creating a series of static slides with pretty transitions. This was a good first step, but there is a longer road ahead.
First Night
I had a great time creating my very first powerpoint!!
Thanks to Margaret and the teachers for all your help!
I look forward to the next classes.

PowerPoint
It was great to have the ability down to load music. Go to soundzabounds. It was very easy. Make sure to download the song to your document and title it. Go to insert movies and music- sound to file.
What not to do...
I know that we will get to the "how not to use" portion of our class, but I just wanted to bring a few items up to make sure our presentations are the most affective. First, do not have a paragraph on the screen. Bullet points of one to three words is best. Give the main ideas, but not necessarily a full sentence. Second, when you are using a picture as your background, make sure that the photo does not distract from your text. Sometimes it is hard to read the text over the photo. These are just a few things that I have seen in the past from different presenters. A hard to read/understand presentation actually takes away from you as a presenter. Just a thought.
Soundzabound
I learned how to use Soundzabound to import music onto my Power Points. I have not yet been able to figure out how to put the same song on ALL of my slides. I put different songs on each of the slides but couldn't make it repeat for the entire slide show.....
1st night
I am wondering how to watermark a background picture. I saw it done but I don't know how to do it. Otherwise, it was a pretty good intro. class. Hopefully I can actually sit next to other people next time.

First class
I am looking forward to gaining a better understanding of PowerPoint through this class so that I can have an easier time creating PowerPoints for classroom use:)

Welcome!!!
This will be the blog for our PowerPoint class for the next four weeks. Please complete one blog entry within 24 hours after each class. Things that you can include would be questions that you have come up with during or outside of class, tips for other students, or anything that you've found out that created a kind of "aha" moment for you.
Again, welcome to our class. We hope that you find lots of useful ideas and information as we journey through the next month.
